The Bard of Avalon started life as a CD and book project by Mythica (Jenny and Pat Selfe - also known as Magical Sounds). Combining narrative,
music and song, this is an evocation of the mythical Celtic Otherworld - Avalon.
The project was inspired by a chance remark of a friend, following several years of fateful coincidences...
We had been led by fate to buy a house whose previous owners had left behind all of their books. These were stacked ready to be sent to the charity
shop when our friend visited.
Seeing among them "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley he assumed that we had read it. We had not, so he recommended that we
should... he knew we should enjoy it. We did.
As a result, we were not only inspired to create the Bard of Avalon, but in the process we realised that we had been visiting this Otherworld for many
years, without giving it a name.
In our work as Magical Sounds we use sacred sound to guide our fellow pilgrims to Avalon.
Mythica enters Avalon via the Way of myth and song.
The Bard explores the Ways of the Storyteller, Pilgrim, Artist and Shaman too.
And so The Bard of Avalon embraces the many facets of the Otherworld, and the Ways to reach it...
Here is a meeting of the Ways which lead to the Otherworld.
A story leads to a poem. A poem leads to a song. A song leads to an image. An image leads us on a pilgrimage. A pilgrimage leads us on our
journey. The journey leads to Avalon - to ourselves.
There is music all around.
